The ‘XXL’ brand logo is a trademark; it is used every month
on every single issue published with exactly the same positioning and colours
used, by doing this it suggests that the magazine is based around the same
principles every time they release a new issue, but obviously with different
contentThe sentence above the ‘XXL’ logo will make hip hop fans
intrigued

these bands/artists all have the same size and font text to show they are equal.
The list of some artists that are featured in the magazine
these bands/artists all have the same size and font text to show they are equal.
The main story of the magazine is obviously about Drake and
Nicki Minaj. An image of them has been enlarged and centred this is to
strengthen the fact that they are the main story. The image acts as a
background to the magazine but is layered to overlap things, making her jump
out of the cover
The
text underneath strengthens the main picture to show that it is the main story
The barcode is an essential part of the magazine. They are
used in sales of the product. It has been put at the bottom corner of the front
page to keep it out of the way of the more interesting things on the front
cover.
A list of some of the main topics that are featured in the
magazine this is to notify the audience as to what they will be reading.

The 'Q' brand logo is a trademark; it is used every month on every single issue published with exactly the same positioning and colours used, by doing this it suggests that the magazine is based around the same principles every time they release a new issue, but obviously with different content.
U2 are on the front cover this is to show that are featured in the magazine they have a picture to show they are important. The barcode is an essential part of the magazine. They are used in sales of the product. It has been put at the bottom corner of the front page to keep it out of the way of the more interesting things on the front cover. The text underneath strengthens the main picture to show that it is the main story. The banner over the logo suggests that this issue of 'Q' is different or special in some way, the words 'JAY KAY' are in yellow this alerts the reader to and makes them look at it after the main title. The words 'the essential music guide at the top of the front cover suggests to the reader that the information inside of the magazine is essential to people that enjoy music.
The logo 'KERRANG' whish also acts as a title is a trademark this is included in every issue of the magazine it is is put in the same position size and font every week, it suggests that the magazine is based around the same kind of stuff every week just using different content. Also, the cracked nature of the letters gives the impression of something being broken or smashed, which connotes rebellious behaviour, something that will appeal to the target teenage audience. It also suggests something being loud enough to break glass, which represents the loudness of the music covered in the magazine. The main story in the magazine is obviously about 'Biffy Clyro' as the picture which acts as a background and there is an anchor 'Biffy Clyro' intriguesthe magazines audience to buy the magazine to get the free poster that is inside. The barcode is hidden at the bottom of the front cover this is because the audience doesnt wanyt to see the barcode and wants to oncventrate on the other more interesting features of the front cover however it is esential as it is used in the sales of the magazines. The pictures of the other bands are the same size and in similar position this is probably to show that they have an equal size magazine feature on them, they are less important than biffy clyro in this issue as shown by picture and text size. The exclamation mark in the title of the magazine shows shock, this shows that it is different compared to other music magazines and covers a different type of music. The black text on the white background and the white text on the black background make it easy to read and this would attract the reader, this would specifically attract the male target audience of kerrang as the bold, plain coulors of black and white are masculine
This double page spread is definitely picture lead, it
presents four separate images, these images almost act as a border for the two
column text.
The different pictures are used to show the reader that all
of the members in the band are individuals this is done to introduce the reader
to the band, the use of the close up images make the photos look more personal
and this will interest the reader, also as the photos are active shots they
make the page look busy and interesting this will draw in possible customers
and make them buy the magazine.
The images have been edited, the models have no
imperfections visible and the images have also been turned black and white this
gives the reader the idea that the band are an ‘old fashioned’ rock/indie band.
On the top of the left hand page there is a pop out saying
world exclusive this gives the reader the feeling that ‘they are in the loop’
it makes the reader feel they are getting told something secretive and this
will entice them to buy it.
The house style is black red and white this is consistent
throughout the magazine and so we know what magazine the article is from.
The punch quote is effective as it is large this means it is the first thing you see when you turn to this page it says 'WE'RE BEING THE BEST MCR WE CAN BE' MCR stands for My Chemical Romance, these are a band, the use of this in the large punch quote gives the DPS a unique selling point as it is aimed directly at fans of this specific band
The title is ‘Brandon flowers’ this is to inform the reader
on who the article is about, the text and its background is also in sync with the house style of the magazine which shows consistency and reliability throughout the magazine.
The Grab quote says ‘I DON’T WANT PEOPLE TO THINK ITS
NARCISSISTIC’ this would encourage people to read the article as it sounds like
the artist is trying to explain that he isn't obsessed with himself.
This Double page spread article is evenly balanced between
text and images, this shows balance on the page and gives the page and magazine
a more professional look.
The two pictures are of the same man, in both pictures he is
sitting down and not being to active, this could be to represent the music
style of the artist. It could also be to show the relaxed nature of the artist
which gives him an increased ‘likeability rating’
The Q logo is at the top of the page this is consistent with
the rest of the magazine, it also gives the page brand recognition. If you saw
these two pages alone you would recognise the magazine due to the ‘Q’
The black writing on the white background shows a
consistency in the house style with the recognised colours of XXL magazine.
The large quotation is used as a title this is unusual and
therefore grabs the reader’s attention. However the main attention grabber in
this punch quote is the lexical choices that have obviously been selected in
order to shock the reader, the whole quote is a threat it entices the customer
to read this article as it will make them feel as though they are in the ‘loop’
The large image that takes up one of the pages is used to
show the reader who the article is about, both artists are presenting attitude
through the use of hand gestures and facial expressions this is a key indicator
into the genre of music these artists perform as hip-hop/rap is full of
attitude.
The two evenly split columns show balance they take up the
right hand page, the left hand page is one big picture this shows a balance of
the double page spread, this is contradictory to the articles story and intent
as it is about conflict but the balance of the two pages shows connotations of
calm and balance
